Special Event You Won't Want to Miss! Time Sensitive.

Upfront: Come Together
|
It's time! We are on our way to the White House with Barack Obama.
The primaries were exhausting and sometimes acrimonious and divisive. We know and understand the utter disappointment of Hillary Clinton's supporters; many of our group are among that number. But we must look to the future and November.
UAPA wants to foster an atmosphere of unity. We are dismayed by some voters who seem to be walking away in anger from the progressive cause. That decision will only ensure a Republican victory in November, giving us eight more years of the Bush presidency; degrading environmental policies; disastrous foreign policies; a destructive conservative majority on the Supreme Court, and more of the same in Iraq with no end in sight. With apologies to Aesop, it can be summed up like this: "United we conquer; divided, we elect McCain."
Many of you will be asked to volunteer your time, talents and money to state and national candidate campaigns and we encourage you to do so, but we hope you understand the value of your participation at the grassroots level and help strengthen the social network we call UAPA. Because ultimately, for all the talk about voting being a private act, it is in fact a social act in which individual behavior is hugely dependent on the thinking and actions of others. The yard sign you display, the political conversation you start over the back fence, and the letter you write to the SNP helps create an influential voice in UA that changes minds and votes here and beyond.
What UAPA needs now is an influx of committed volunteers -- both Obama and Clinton supporters -- to continue our social movement for political change. There are many different ways you can help -- there are tasks suited to a variety of skills and availability. And it's fun and rewarding -- the bonding created by working together toward a common goal is a great feeling. Lifelong friends are often created in such endeavors -- just ask some of our longtime members. Please join our efforts today -- you'll be glad you did!
We need you now more than ever -- because the Democratic candidate for President needs our help to capture Ohio. Let's do our part -- together -- to win this state and nation for the Democrats.
Join the Family Fun at the 4th Annual UAPA Picnic at Fancyburg Park!

Make plans now to attend UAPA's 4th annual family picnic on Sunday, June 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Be prepared for an afternoon of live entertainment, popular picnic food (including vegetarian options), children's activities and good conversation! At the event, we'll be unveiling our new yard signs, T-shirts and bumper stickers supporting the Obama candidacy -- come for the party and stay for the debut!
Also on tap:
• Best-selling political author David Sirota, currently on tour promoting his new book THE UPRISING, will stop by and speak about the rise of populist politicals (as evidenced by grassroots organizations like ours) as well as answer questions and sign copies of his book. (See related story.)
• You'll also have the chance to meet and greet many of the local candidates for office, obtain yard signs and other promotional items and sign up for a variety of volunteer opportunities!
In addition, if you are able to help for an hour with our sign in table, food, children's games or other picnic activities, please drop us a line at info@UAProgressiveAction.com and let us know. Put picnic volunteer in the subject line and include your name and phone number in the body of the e-mail.
Thanks!

NY Times Best-selling Political Author, David Sirota, to Speak at UAPA Picnic
Upper Arlington Progressive Action is proud to announce that noted political author David Sirota will speak at the 4th Annual UAPA Picnic in the Park on Sunday, June 22, at 2:00 p.m. Sirota’s new book, THE UPRISING: An Unauthorized Tour of the Populist Revolt Scaring Wall Street and Washington (Crown Publishing Group) was released on May 28, 2008 and just this week hit the NY Times bestseller list. The book includes a chapter on Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and his efforts to shape the populist movement in Washington.
THE UPRISING, which follows Sirota’s New York Times bestseller Hostile Takeover (2006), reports on today’s seething popular discontent on both the Right and Left, which is creating a new populist political movement roiling the 2008 presidential campaign and national politics. From
behind-the-scenes negotiations on Capitol Hill to an ExxonMobil stockholder meeting and the campsite of the Minutemen guarding the U.S.-Mexico border, Sirota traveled the United States to report on this anger and the populist uprising it is creating.
Please join us in welcoming David Sirota to Upper Arlington, and hear how grassroots groups like UAPA will transform this country from the ground up. Sirota will be signing copies of his book, which will be for purchase, following his remarks. Please note that we cannot accept credit cards. For more information on the Picnic in the Park, please see the related article.
