In-Precinct Poll Observers Are Needed

With the 2012 General Election less than 60 days away, your help is needed now more than ever. Across the state we have seen Republicans using every voter suppression tactic they can muster -- firing two Montgomery County Board of Elections members who stood up for weekend early voting, challenging hundreds of voters' registrations,  and worst of all, standing with Secretary of State Husted to limit in-person early voting.

Issue 2

Steps to fairer districts:

1. Get enough petition signatures to place an issue on the November 6, 2012 ballot. DONE!

2. Learn more by reading our FAQ on redistricting and gerrymandering and visiting Voters First Ohio.

3. Educate voters about ISSUE 2 and encourage them to vote YES. Hint: We need money and bodies to spread the word! See the ad!

4. VOTE YES on ISSUE 2!

Sadly, this issue failed on November 6th. We are now stuck with badly gerrymandered districts until the next Census. Or until we can convince our fellow Ohioans to embrace progressive ideas.

What are you going to do about it?!?

Get out your hammers and stake out your piece of political discourse with our signature UA for Obama yard signs from Upper Arlington Progressive Action!

Our wonderful “Sign People” may face challenges but they never give up. Sticky fingered political operatives of the conservative right may try to stop our public display of affection but we always prevail in supporting our President!

Ending Gerrymandering in Ohio -- Next UAPA Meeting August 21

Come learn more about the amendment intended to end gerrymandering, and what it means for the voters of Ohio at our next monthly membership meeting on Tuesday, August 21 as we welcome Dick Gunther of Voters' First. We'll be meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Upper Arlington Public Library, 2800 Tremont Road, Upper Arlington.

It's time to turn UA blue!

In 1928, Republicans pledged “a chicken in every pot.” Ninety-some years later, the GOP has forgotten that many Americans not only don’t have a chicken, they don’t even have a pot to cook it in.

Romney says he wants to get into the Oval Office so he can strengthen the middle class by reducing the debt and maintaining tax cuts.  But trickle down economics have strengthened only the bank accounts of his millionaire pals, Wall Street traders, and special interest groups. And the rest of the 99% are suffering.

I'm Ashamed (of Ohio Voter Suppression)

Letters to the Editor
August 10, 2012

Columbus Dispatch,

In the 2012 Ohio Voter Information Guide Jon Husted says:  “The Secretary of State’s office is committed to ensuring that each Ohioan who is eligible to cast a ballot is able to do so.”

We learned, in the 2004 election, that 5 hour lines at the polls on Election Day kept some of those, who were eligible, from casting their ballot.  That was corrected in 2008 by allowing early in-person voting.

Housing Needed for Campaign Staff/Volunteers

2012 Campaign staff are pouring into Columbus and they need housing!  Some will be here for a weekend, some for a week, some for several weeks, and some until the election!  They will be working with the Obama campaign, the Sherrod Brown campaign, and ODP. There are also interns who need housing, as well as international and out-of-state volunteers. This is a great way to help the campaign without ever leaving your home or writing a check. It's a very rewarding experience and really is a lifesaver for those you take in!
